It’s awards season so we thought it was the perfect time to shine the spotlight on our NEW Awarding-Winning Perennials Collection.

This plant collection is inspired by plants recognised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and awarded their prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit or the RHS Plants for Pollinators Award and other plants recognised by garden-established awards.

You may be well-versed in the work of the RHS but just in case we thought we would share a little more about this incredible force in horticulture. For over two centuries and operating as a charity they work passionately to inspire millions of people to get involved in gardening. Their dedicated staff and volunteers are what make the RHS such a special organisation which is valued and respected by gardeners far and wide – everyone shares the same goal – to educate and inform us about the benefits of growing plants!

Their awards scheme exists to enable gardeners to easily recognise and choose plants that are good value for money, have great purpose and will deliver in the garden. There are two awards that savvy gardeners look for in particular:

The RHS Award of Garden Merit – this award enables gardeners to easily recognise which plants are best suited to their garden. It’s a seal of approval that lets you know that you can trust this plant to perform well – basically, it won’t let you down is what they are saying and ‘they’ are a panel of horticultural experts!

The RHS Plants for Pollinators Award – this award exists to help gardeners identify plants that are perfect for those wanting to attract pollinating insects to their garden and most importantly support a drive to increase the pollinator numbers in our gardens – you may have noticed they are in decline and as good gardeners we have a responsibility to do what we can to reverse this. (If you visit our website you’ll see we have a NEW Perennial Wildlife Collection that aims to help with this).

We digress slightly but importantly to urge you to really explore how you can help reverse the decline. The following is taken from the Bug’s Life website and are the words of Sir David Attenborough and they make you think.

‘If we and the rest of the back-boned animals were to disappear overnight, the rest of the world would get on pretty well. But if the invertebrates were to disappear, the world’s ecosystems would collapse.’

Bug’s Life is doing great work and their website is a useful resource for us all so please take a look.

So back to our Award-Winning Perennials Collection, these plants are our red-carpet stars.

They hold their awards with pride and we are delighted that across our website you’ll find so many. In fact, that is part of the reason we thought we would put together a plant collection and also because our loyal customers who make up the Golden Valley Plants garden community, fed back that they would like us to.

How we select which plants make it into this collection is left to our experts, after all, they are the team who are carefully nurturing the plants you buy from us and so we give them what we call – Grower’s Choice. There’s a huge variety of hardy perennials for them to choose from and what they choose varies as they want to make sure that what you receive are the very best perennials we have available.

Colours, shapes and textures will vary depending on what they choose, you can expect to receive AgapanthusAnemoneDahlia, EchinaceaHosta or Salvia and that’s just a few from the list but be rest assured you’re in safe hands with our plant experts.

You might be thinking that this all sounds great but what size are they? That’s a fair question and one that comes with a choice of either three, three-litre pots or six, one-litre pots, the price for both is the same.

If you are interested in this collection and have any questions please contact us, the team are always happy to talk plants, especially perennials! Or you can DM us via our social channels, Facebook and Instagram.
