Peonies as gifts

Peonies begin to flower in the UK from April onwards. Coral Peonies appear first, followed by the more classic Pink Peony which flowers in the early days of Summer.

Herbaceous Peonies can be planted in Spring and Autumn, they are easy to grow, will tolerate pretty much any soil type and can be planted in a sunny or partly shaded location. Grow them in deep, fertile soil that is moisture-rich and drains well.

Itoh Peonies (or Intersectional Peonies) are a cross between a Tree peony and a herbaceous peony. The foliage dies back in winter, leaving behind a neat, low woody framework. Itoh Peony have the largest flowers of any peony variety, which bloom over an extended period and provide a longer display of beauty. Grown just like herbaceous peonies, they thrive in similar conditions and make striking feature plants, adding drama and elegance to growing spaces. We only select the biggest roots for our Peonies, which we pot in the Autumn to give you the best chance of flower within the first year. We do not guarantee flowering in the first year, as you may know peonies will flower more prolifically, as they mature, so it is not until the second year that you will really see them flourish. Our peonies are potted in 3.5L deep pots (for herbaceous Peonies and 5.5L pots for Itoh Peonies). If you purchase a peony during Autumn, Winter or early Spring, they will be dormant.

Peony Plants for Sale:

As we are a plant nursery and grower, we always have a large range of Peonies on our beds, since we overwinter them. Out of season they will still be available to buy (even though we don’t advertise them on our website). They are all pot grown and during the winter, when the peony is dormant, they will not be showing above the pot, until they start re-shooting in the spring.
