We just love bedding plants and so do many gardeners as they are one of the first plants to start bringing our gardens back to joyous life. They offer plenty of colour and can be used in flower or raised beds, not forgetting that some are also suitable for use in containers on patios or balcony gardens.
Bedding plants are temporary so most are annuals (some are tender perennials) and only last a year but this does give you a great opportunity to be really creative with your displays and try something new each year. Public gardens and street planters are often adorned with bedding plants often changing with seasons.
If you are looking to create a super summer display then April is the perfect time to get planting and you can continue through until June. If you are looking to create an autumn/winter display then later in the year is the perfect time, around September.
We offer a variety of bedding plants that are garden ready and can be planted straight into your garden. Looking after your plants will depend on the individual species so we always suggest checking our useful information on each plant page. As a rule of thumb make sure you, water, deadhead to allow new growth and feed to ensure your display continues to look stunning.
We also deliver straight to your door making life easy. All you need to do is browse the bedding plants on our website, select your favourites, add to basket, checkout and let the team at Golden Valley Plants do the rest! You can shop by species and colour, how easy is that!
We’ve a few favourites to share with you too.
Argyranthemum commonly known as Marguerite Daisies, are cheerful flowers that bring an abundance of colour to any bedding display, pot or container. They also tolerate wind making them popular in costal gardens. (Little plug for our costal collection here if you are looking for suitable plants).
Pelargonium Scented Odorata Rose or Lemon, are both beautiful and fragrant. Known for its strong scent, released from its velvety, soft-textured leaves, they flower from May to September and makes great cut flowers.
Begonias are a must in hanging baskets as well as beds and pots. They are a little flamboyant too as they can cascade from hanging baskets, refusing to be shy alongside other summer blooms.
Our website offers even more to choose from, don’t forget to look at our plant feed too and we recommend a good multi-purpose compost.
We’ve been growing perennial plants for over 50 years at our Herefordshire nursery. We are an online nursery offering a variety of perennials, perfect for every corner of your garden, from West Country Lupins, Geums, Peonies, Dahlias, Salvias, Foxgloves and many more varieties.
