Description

Jack Frost lives up to its name with particularly attractive heart-shaped foliage with a very strong variegation of a beautiful silver but also has the added benefit of sending up clouds of tiny, pale blue flowers in Spring which drift above the mound of interesting foliage, which forms dense and lush mounds. This versatile plant is a clump forming deciduous perennial which slowly creeps over time, but it holds interest and remains an attractive focal point throughout the entire growing season, but it is advisable to prune off any leaves that are scorched by the sun. This Brunnera is easily grown in organically rich, moist and well-drained soil, however dry soil is to be avoided as a cool site in partial or complete shade is much preferred and your plant with reward this by flourishing. A perfect plant to use on banks and sloped ground due their fibrous root system but equally happy in borders as under planting to shrubs and roses. Our team wanted to include 'Jack Frost' as they felt it makes an ideal specimen plant, as it really makes an excellent garden performer and is an eye-catching statement in a nice big container on a shaded patio. Once established they become very remarkably low maintenance and a go-to plant for your garden, they are virtually disease free and perfect for keeping the weeds under control as they offer such amazing ground cover.

Planting Conditions

This Brunnera is easily grown in humus rich, moist and well-drained soil in part or full shade and will tolerate most soil conditions, but it really does dislikes hot and dry conditions so picking the right spot for this beauty is essential.

Watering & Feeding

Brunnera can get all the moisture they need from rainfall so extremely low maintenance if planted into your flowerbeds in shaded or part shaded area, remember it doesn’t like hot or dry conditions. So, if we have a ‘hot’ spell don’t forget to give them a little extra drink. Whilst establishing we recommend regular watering if your plant is placed in a pot or container. The best way to fertilise this perennial is to mulch annually in Springtime with a generous layer of well-rotted manure or garden compost of around 2-3 inches and to grow in moderately light, fertile soil which is well drained.

General Care

For perfect flower power, it is advisable to remove spent flowers once they fade and your Jack Frost will be encouraged to continue producing its impactful blooms right through the Summer months. Do not forget that perennials can be cut back quite hard if needed but a light prune between May and September will encourage more of the beautiful landing pads for those bees. Pests to look out for are those nasty slugs, snails and caterpillars as your beautiful Jack Frost do like these.
