Description

Achillea 'New Vintage Violet' stands out with its vibrant, purple blooms that add a bold pop of colour to any garden setting. This perennial favourite, known for its exceptional garden performance, boasts a long flowering period from May to September. Our horticultural team selected 'New Vintage Violet' for its resilience and adaptability. Growing to a height of around 50-60 cm, it is ideal for borders, rock gardens, or mixed perennial beds. Its compact, upright growth habit and sturdy stems make it a reliable garden performer. Thriving in full sun and well-drained soil, 'New Vintage Violet' is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for low-maintenance landscapes. Its aromatic foliage also repels deer and rabbits, adding to its appeal for gardeners seeking wildlife-resistant plants. This yarrow variety is also prized for its ability to attract pollinators, such as butterflies and bees, making it a valuable addition to pollinator gardens. 'New Vintage Violet' pairs well with other sun-loving perennials, such as Echinacea and Salvia, creating dynamic and colourful garden compositions. With its vibrant blooms and easy-care nature, Achillea 'New Vintage Violet' is a must-have for any garden.

Planting Conditions

Achillea 'New Vintage Violet' thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sunlight exposure, making it an excellent addition to sunny garden beds or borders. Before planting, ensure the soil is enriched with organic matter and free from any weeds. Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, and place the plant at the same depth as it was in the pot. Gently firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly. Adequate spacing between plants allows for proper air circulation and prevents overcrowding, promoting healthy growth.

Watering & Feeding

Achillea can get all the moisture they need from rainfall so extremely low maintenance if planted into your flowerbeds due its tolerance of drought conditions. Often, intense heat in high summer months would be the only time they would require an extra watering. Whilst establishing we recommend regular watering if your plant is placed in a pot or container. The best way to fertilise this perennial is to mulch annually in Springtime with a generous layer of well-rotted manure or garden compost of around 2-3 inches and to grow in moderately light, fertile soil which is well drained.

General Care

For perfect flower power, it is advisable to remove spent flowers once they fade and your will be encouraged to continue producing its impactful blooms right through the summer months. Don’t forget that perennials can be cut back quite hard if needed but a light prune between May and September will encourage more of the beautiful landing pads for those bees! Pests to look out for are those nasty aphids and can be susceptible to powdery mildew.
