Agastache ‘Purple Haze’ is a stunning perennial that fills the garden with elegant violet-purple flower spikes from midsummer into autumn. We love its liquorice scented foliage and nectar-rich blooms that attract bees, butterflies and other pollinators, making it a superb addition to wildlife-friendly planting. Here at the nursery we would recommend planting these with ornamental grasses and other flowering perennials, adding colour, texture and movement to borders and containers. Easy to grow and exceptionally long flowering, Agastache ‘Purple Haze’ is an excellent choice for creating vibrant, pollinator-friendly displays that last throughout the season. NB Our well-established Agastache are cut-back late summer for a second flush later in the season.

Planting Conditions

Agastache 'Purple Haze' thrives in a sunny position with well-drained, fertile soil. It is ideally suited to herbaceous borders, prairie-style planting, gravel gardens, wildlife gardens and large patio containers with good drainage. Choose an open site where plants receive plenty of direct sunlight and good air movement. Avoid heavy clay soils that remain wet during winter, as excessive moisture can affect plant longevity. Space plants adequately to allow room for their upright growth and to promote healthy air circulation, helping them perform at their best throughout the growing season.

Watering & Feeding

Water Agastache 'Purple Haze' regularly during its first growing season while the root system establishes. Once mature, it is relatively drought tolerant and only requires additional watering during prolonged dry periods. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings and avoid prolonged wet conditions, particularly during winter. Feed in spring with a balanced general-purpose fertiliser to support healthy growth and flowering throughout the season. Avoid excessive applications of high-nitrogen fertilisers, as these encourage leafy growth and may reduce the quantity and quality of flowers produced.

General Care

Agastache 'Purple Haze' is a reliable, low-maintenance perennial that benefits from occasional deadheading to encourage continuous flowering and keep plants looking neat. Remove spent flower spikes throughout the season and leave the remaining stems standing over winter to provide structure and help protect the crown. Cut back all old growth in early spring as fresh shoots emerge. Divide mature clumps every few years if they become congested to maintain healthy growth, improve air circulation and encourage abundant flowering, ensuring plants remain vigorous and attractive year after year.
