Asters do well in a partially shaded spot, in either a pot or the ground. Water well to establish but, as they can be prone to mildew, make sure you get the soil wet rather than the plant. Deadhead regularly to encourage more flowers, and cut it back to the ground after it has finished flowering in late Autumn.
