Description

We believe Camellia Winter Perfume Pink is a stunning addition to gardens, particularly when paired with hellebores, skimmias, daphnes, and aquilegias, ensuring vibrant colour and interest for both You and insects visiting Your garden in early spring. During November and December, the plant is adorned with buds that bloom into small, sweet-scented flowers, providing delightful clusters that brighten the winter landscape. Known for their hardiness and resilience, camellias require minimal care while offering abundant beauty. We have chosen camellias for their versatility which allows for various placements: the shiny evergreen leaves turn red in spring, enhancing shrub borders and providing screening in front of walls and fences. They brighten up patios and porches and serve as standout features in flower borders. For added appeal we suggest, positioning them in pots near doorways; this allows you to enjoy their delightful fragrance during the flowering months each time you enter the house. When moving plants, care usually needs to be taken; however, camellias are tolerant of being relocated. They are hardy and can withstand winter months, but it's important to place them in a sheltered spot away from the wind. Using horticultural fleece can help protect their buds when frosts arrive. Camellias thrive in acidic soil, making it essential to provide the right conditions for optimal growth.

Planting Conditions

Camellia japonica 'Winter Perfume pink' like moist, well drained, acid soil in a sheltered position out of the wind. They prefer to be in dappled shade to full shade as the intensity of the sun can scorch their leaves. If you are planting a camellia in a container use a mix of ericaceous compost and John Innes No. 3.

Watering & Feeding

After planting, water Camellia japonica 'Winter Perfume Pink’ regularly for the first year until it is well-established, only watering during dry spells thereafter using rainwater whenever possible. Water more frequently in summer during the months July, August, September as this is when the flower buds for the following year form; drought can prevent the buds from forming successfully. When the plant reaches four years old it requires less care and attention; only it is still wise to water in very dry conditions in the Summer period.

General Care

Camellias are considered hardy plants however the colder conditions of frost and snow can damage their buds and so covering the plant with horticultural fleece is recommended. Camellias require no pruning in the first four years and subsequently little pruning thereafter. However if the plant does get too large for the space time back immediately after flowering in the Spring.
