Canna 'Cannova Bronze Orange' is not only beautiful but also easy to care for. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, and its robust nature means it can withstand various weather conditions. This makes it an excellent choice for gardeners looking to bring a tropical flair to their outdoor spaces without the need for constant maintenance.

Planting Conditions

For optimal growth, we advise planting Canna in a sunny location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Choose fertile, well-drained soil, enriched with organic matter like compost or well-rotted manure. Plant the rhizomes 5-10 cm deep and space them 30-60 cm apart to allow ample room for growth. Cannas thrive in warm climates but can be grown in cooler areas if provided with some protection. Ensure the planting site is sheltered from strong winds to prevent damage to the large, tropical leaves and its vibrant blooms.

Watering & Feeding

Canna plants benefit from regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during hot weather. Water deeply once or twice a week, depending on rainfall and soil drainage. Applying a balanced fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season, as this promotes robust growth and flowering. Use a fertiliser formulated for flowering plants or a general-purpose fertiliser with balanced nutrients. Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can lead to lush foliage at the expense of flowers. Mulching around the plants helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, enhancing overall plant health and vigour.

General Care

Canna plants generally require minimal pruning beyond removing spent flowers and damaged leaves to maintain their appearance. Deadheading, or removing faded blooms, encourages continuous flowering throughout the growing season, for a second flush. While relatively pest-resistant, they can occasionally be affected by pests like caterpillars or aphids, which can be managed with insecticidal soap or natural predators. Canna plants are also susceptible to fungal diseases like rust or leaf spot in humid conditions. Ensure good air circulation around plants and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of these diseases, promoting healthier growth and vibrant blooms.
