Planting Conditions

When planting Dahlia, ensure the soil is well-drained, with a pH level between 6.5 to 7.0. Select a sunny location with sufficient space for the mature plant. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and deep enough to accommodate it. Gently remove the plant from its container, being careful not to disturb the roots or flowers. Place the root ball in the centre of the hole and backfill with soil, gently firming it around the plant. Water thoroughly to settle the soil.

Watering & Feeding

Water newly planted Dahlias regularly to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid waterlogging. Once established, water deeply but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Apply a balanced fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to promote healthy growth and abundant blooms. Avoid excessive nitrogen, as it can lead to lush foliage at the expense of flowers.

General Care

Dahlias benefit from regular deadheading to promote continuous blooming. We advise pruning back spent flowers to encourage new growth and prolong the flowering season. Watch for common pests like aphids, spider mites, and earwigs, which can damage foliage and flowers. Use insecticidal soap or neem oil to control infestations. Dahlias are generally disease-resistant but can be susceptible to powdery mildew and fungal diseases in humid conditions. Provide good air circulation by spacing plants appropriately and avoid overhead watering to minimize disease risk.
