Description

This dahlia typically grows to a height of about 36-48 inches (90-120 cm) and spreads up to 24-36 inches (60-90 cm). Its tall and bushy growth habit makes it an excellent choice for creating a dramatic backdrop in flower beds, borders, or even large containers. As the deep purple blooms of Purple Explosion reach their peak, consider cutting a few stems for stunning floral arrangements. The intense colour and intricate petal formation make it an excellent choice for creating striking bouquets that will add elegance and drama to any setting.

Planting Conditions

When it comes to planting, Dahlia Purple Explosion thrives in well-drained soil enriched with organic matter. It prefers full sun to partial shade, with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for optimal growth and flowering. Choose a location that offers some protection from strong winds to prevent damage to the exquisite blooms.

Watering & Feeding

Regular watering is essential to keep Purple Explosion healthy and vibrant. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry, allowing the water to reach the root zone. Be mindful not to overwater, as dahlia tubers are susceptible to rot in overly wet conditions. Applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plant will help retain moisture, suppress weed growth, and maintain a cool root environment.

General Care

To encourage continuous blooming, it is recommended to deadhead faded flowers regularly. Removing spent blooms not only enhances the overall appearance of the plant but also redirects its energy towards producing new buds and flowers.
