Description
Planting Conditions
Echinacea thrives in full sun to partial shade. Choose a planting location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day. The soil should be well-drained and rich in organic matter. Echinacea is adaptable to various soil types, but it prefers slightly acidic to neutral pH levels. When planting, dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball, place the plant at the same depth it was in the nursery container, and back-fill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting to settle the soil. With the right planting conditions, Echinacea will establish well and reward you with its beautiful and resilient blooms.
Watering & Feeding
Echinacea prefers well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods. Water deeply, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid over-watering, as Echinacea is drought-tolerant once established. When it comes to feeding, Echinacea generally doesn't require heavy fertilisation. Incorporating organic matter into the soil during planting provides sufficient nutrients. However, a light application of a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early Spring can support healthy growth and flowering. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for dosage and application. With proper watering and occasional feeding, your Echinacea will thrive and reward you with its vibrant and long-lasting blooms.
General Care
Echinacea is a hardy perennial that requires minimal care. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and well-drained soil. Regular watering, especially during dry periods, helps to keep the soil evenly moist but not overly saturated. Deadheading spent flowers encourages continuous blooming and prevents self-seeding. In colder regions, a layer of mulch provides insulation during winter. Echinacea is generally resistant to pests and diseases but monitor for any signs of infestation or disease and take appropriate action if needed. Division every few years rejuvenates the plant and maintains its vigour. With these simple care practices, your Echinacea will flourish and enchant with its vibrant blooms.
