Description

Our Geum Collection has been thoughtfully selected by our horticultural team for their outstanding performance qualities and versatility. Acknowledged with the RHS Award of Garden Merit this perennial selection will burst into your garden space year after year with reliably vibrant coloured blooms and will instantly elevate your garden design with dramatic pops of colour. Included are Geum 'Lady Stratheden' with its semi-double, fiery yellow blooms atop slender arching stems. With a fast growth rate whilst reaching average heights of 60-75cm 'Lady Stratheden' will offer a striking focus in the middle to the front of your borders or mixed beds. Flowering from June right through to August you can expect glowing flowers all Summer long, after dead-heading spent flowers you can expect the second flush of flowers guiding you into late Summer months. Also included in our Geum Collection is the Geum 'Mrs Bradshaw', with semi-double vivid scarlet flowers among rosettes of puckered, scalloped fresh green leaves. A popular variety on our nursery, with a long flowering season from June to August.  This easy-to-grow Geum looks best among other 'hot' coloured flowers towards the front of a sunny border. Both Geum 'Lady Stratheden' and 'Mrs Bradshaw' have obtained the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit; with the Royal Horticultural Society's seal of approval that the plant performs reliably and consistently in the garden. We are honoured to see it grow on our nursery en-masse and see it perform with reliability and true colour year after year. Both Geum varieties adapt well to various soil types and light conditions, making it accessible to a wide range of gardeners as they are incredibly easy to care for with a high performance. Its resilience extends to fitting seamlessly into a range of different garden styles. From cottage gardens to informal landscapes, urban gardens and mixed planting beds and borders. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Geum attracts pollinators, contributing to the local biodiversity of your garden. This ecological significance aligns with our commitment to sustainable gardening practices. Whether you're cultivating a cottage garden, a naturalistic landscape, or a wildlife-friendly haven, Geum stands as a reliable and impactful choice with a positive ecological impact.

Planting Conditions

For successful cultivation of your Geum collection we recommend well-drained soil enriched with organic matter is provided for planting. This perennial thrives in areas with partial to full sun exposure, receiving at least 4-6 hours of sunlight daily. We suggest planting in garden borders, rock gardens, or perennial beds to enhance your gardens design. Ensuring adequate spacing of 12-18 inches between plants will allow for adequate air circulation. Whether placed in borders or mixed planting schemes, these conditions create an ideal environment for your Geum collection to flourish, providing your garden with its vibrant blooms.

Watering & Feeding

To maintain the health and vitality of your Geum collection, we suggest adhering to appropriate watering and feeding practices. Ensure regular watering, keeping the soil consistently moist without allowing it to become waterlogged. In warmer periods, increased watering may be beneficial to prevent dehydration. While Geums are generally adaptable, providing a balanced fertiliser in early Spring aids in robust growth and blooming. However, we suggest you avoid excessive feeding, as this can lead to leggy growth. Consistent care in watering and modest feeding enhances the overall performance of both Geums in this collection and will ensure a prolonged display of their cheerful blooms in your garden space.

General Care

General care for your Geum collection involves several key considerations for optimal performance. Regular deadheading; the removal of spent flowers will encourage continuous blooming and also maintains the plant's tidy appearance. Monitor for pests such as aphids or slugs, which can impact the plant's health. If detected, treat promptly to prevent infestations. Keep an eye out for signs of diseases like powdery mildew, addressing any issues promptly. Allowing adequate spacing of around 12-18 inches apart, promotes proper air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases. While a Geum generally resilient, vigilant care contributes to its overall health and longevity in your garden landscape. Incorporating these practices ensures that this perennial not only thrives but also graces your outdoor space with vibrant blooms, elevating your garden design.
