Gladiolus thrives in well-drained soil and requires a sunny spot to flourish. Plant in Spring after the danger of frost has passed. Choose a location with at least six hours of direct sunlight daily. The soil should be loose, fertile, and enriched with organic matter. Plant about 4-6 inches deep and leaving space around 6-8 inches apart. Adequate spacing allows air circulation and prevents overcrowding. Gladiolus can be grown in both garden beds and containers, bringing a burst of colour and elegance to your landscape.

To keep Gladiolus thriving, proper watering and feeding are essential. Water the plants regularly, ensuring that the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. Deep watering once a week is generally sufficient. During hot and dry periods, increase watering frequency to prevent the soil from drying out completely. When it comes to feeding, apply a balanced fertiliser every 3-4 weeks during the growing season. Choose a fertiliser specifically formulated for flowering plants and follow the package instructions for application rates. Feeding helps promote healthy foliage and robust blooms. With proper watering and feeding, your Gladiolus will dazzle with its vibrant and graceful display.

Taking care of Gladiolus is relatively straightforward. Regular watering is crucial to keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged, throughout the growing season. Mulching around the plants helps retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Deadhead faded flowers to encourage continuous blooming and remove any diseased foliage promptly. It's important to provide support, such as stakes or trellises, for taller varieties to prevent bending or breaking. After the blooming season, allow the foliage to naturally wither and yellow before cutting it back. Lift and store the corms in a cool, dry place before the frost arrives in areas with cold winters. With proper care, Gladiolus will reward you with its stunning and graceful blossoms year after year.
