Description

Hosta 'Sorbet' earns its place in our range for its exceptional ability to enhance shaded areas with its eye-catching blend of colours and textures. With its variegated foliage of creamy white centers surrounded by deep green margins, 'Sorbet' adds layers of interest and dimension to garden beds and borders. Our horticultural team selected this variety for its reliable performance and resilience in various growing conditions, making it a dependable choice for gardeners of all levels. Plant 'Sorbet' in partially shaded to fully shaded areas, where it will thrive and bring vibrancy to otherwise dark corners of the garden. Its compact size makes it suitable for edging pathways or used for under planting, accentuating the base of trees and shrubs. As a low-maintenance and hardy perennial, 'Sorbet' provides years of enjoyment with minimal care. In garden designs, 'Sorbet' serves as a versatile element, offering both visual interest and practicality. Our team recommends pairing it with other shade-loving plants like Ferns, Astilbes, or Heucheras for a dynamic and cohesive look. Whether used as a border plant, a focal point, or a ground cover, 'Sorbet' elevates the overall garden design with its distinctive shape and texture.

Planting Conditions

To ensure optimal conditions for Hostas in your garden, we recommend selecting a planting site with well-drained soil enriched with organic matter, such as compost or well-rotted manure. Hostas thrive in partial to full shade, although some varieties tolerate more sunlight. Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during hot Summer months. Plant Hostas at the same depth as they were in their nursery pots, with the crown level with the soil surface. Adequate spacing between plants allows for proper air circulation, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.

Watering & Feeding

We advise watering Hostas deeply and regularly, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged. During hot and dry periods, increase watering frequency to prevent dehydration. Apply water directly to the soil, avoiding wetting the foliage to reduce the risk of fungal diseases. Feeding Hostas with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in Spring promotes healthy growth and lush foliage. Alternatively, apply a water-soluble fertiliser every few weeks during the growing season. Mulching around the base of the plant helps retain moisture and suppress weeds, contributing to the overall health of your Hosta.

General Care

For general care, keep Hostas healthy by regularly removing dead or damaged leaves and spent flower stalks. Monitor for signs of pests like slugs and snails, addressing infestations promptly. Divide overcrowded clumps every few years to maintain vigour and promote better growth. We advise pruning Hostas by cutting back any damaged or yellowing leaves as needed throughout the growing season. In late Autumn, after the foliage has died back, trim the leaves to ground level to tidy up the plant and prepare it for its Winter dormancy.
