Knautia prefer a well-drained, alkaline or neutral soil and are particularly suitable for chalky garden soils. They will need to be in a nice sunny spot and as the plant can sprawl you may want to stake it to give it some support depending on whether you’re happy for a natural look or if you have more formal borders. Water regularly during the first season, but once established they are drought tolerant. Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering. At the end of the season the flowers will self-seed in the autumn, either leave them to naturally spread or harvest and store the seeds for the next season.
