For a thriving Lupin 'Red', adhere to specific planting conditions. Select well-drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, ensuring proper drainage for robust growth. Lupins excel in full sun to partial shade, requiring at least six hours of sunlight daily. Plant during early Spring or Autumn for optimal establishment, but avoiding planting during frosty snaps. With these precise planting guidelines, characterised by the right soil composition and sunlight exposure, you create an environment conducive to the stunning display of 'Red' Lupins. This perennial, with its vibrant red blooms, promises to become a captivating focal point in your garden, adding a burst of colour and height to your borders. We suggest avoiding planting in containers as Lupins perform well in the ground.

Caring for Lupin 'Red' involves a simple routine of watering and feeding. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells, to support its lush growth. However, avoid waterlogging, as Lupins prefer well-drained conditions. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in Spring and feed throughout the growing season to provide essential nutrients for robust blooms without excessive stimulation. This straightforward approach ensures the well-being of your Lupin 'Red,' allowing it to flourish and showcase its stunning red flowers. With these basic care practices, you'll enjoy a vibrant addition to your garden that requires minimal effort to maintain.

Lupin 'Red' is a resilient perennial that demands minimal care for maximum impact. Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming, promoting a longer, vibrant season. Lupins are generally disease-resistant, but monitor for pests and protect young plants from slugs and snails, applying organic controls if needed. Light pruning in early Spring helps maintain a compact shape and supports vigorous growth and remove flower spikes as soon as they look tired otherwise they will go to seed and the plant will stop flowering. Once the plant has finished flowering, usually around late May / early June, cut the plant back to a few inches and you will usually get a second flush later in the year. With these straightforward care practices, Lupin 'Red' becomes a delightful, low-maintenance centrepiece in your garden.
