With its impressive array of attributes, this Nepeta is sure to become a favourite in any garden, providing enjoyment for years to come.

Planting Conditions

To create optimal planting conditions for Nepeta in your garden, select a location with well-draining soil and ample sunlight. Nepeta thrives in full sun to partial shade, making it adaptable to various garden environments. Ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent waterlogging, which can lead to root rot. Incorporate organic matter, such as compost, into the soil before planting to improve fertility and soil structure. Plant Nepeta at the same depth as it was in its container and water thoroughly after planting to help establish roots in the new environment.

Watering & Feeding

For Nepeta, water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first year after planting to establish a strong root system. Once established, Nepeta is fairly drought-tolerant, but occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods is beneficial. Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot. Apply a balanced fertiliser in early Spring to promote healthy growth and flowering. Additionally, top-dress the soil with compost annually to enrich the soil and provide essential nutrients. Deadhead faded flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the growing season.

General Care

General care for Nepeta involves regular monitoring and maintenance. We recommend pruning back the plant after the first flush of flowering to encourage new growth and repeat blooming. Remove any dead or yellowing foliage throughout the growing season to maintain plant health and appearance. Deadhead spent flowers promptly to prolong blooming and prevent self-seeding. Additionally, divide clumps every few years to rejuvenate older plants and maintain vigour. Ensure the soil is well-draining and amend with compost annually to provide essential nutrients for healthy growth.
