Description

Polyanthus 'Showstopper Calypso' is a charming perennial, known for its bright and vibrant blooms in stunning shades of pink, purple, and white. Its unusual, multi-coloured flowers create a beautiful contrast and can brighten up any garden, particularly in early spring when many plants are just starting to bloom. The compact, bushy growth of 'Showstopper Calypso' makes it perfect for smaller gardens, borders, or containers, where it can add a pop of colour without overwhelming the space. This variety thrives in both full sun and partial shade, making it versatile and adaptable to a range of garden conditions. It prefers well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil, ensuring that the plant grows healthily and continues to bloom profusely. Polyanthus 'Calypso' is also relatively low-maintenance, requiring just regular watering to keep the soil consistently moist and occasional deadheading to encourage continuous flowering. In addition to its beauty, 'Calypso' is known for its resistance to pests and diseases, making it a reliable choice for gardeners. The plant’s hardiness means it can tolerate cooler temperatures, blooming even in early spring. With its vibrant colour palette, easy care requirements, and resistance to common garden problems, Polyanthus 'Calypso' is an excellent choice for adding long-lasting beauty to your garden.

Planting Conditions

Polyanthus 'Showstopper Calypso' loves a spot with plenty of bright, indirect light but not too much direct sun, as that can scorch its delicate blooms. It does best in cool, well-drained soil, ideally a bit on the moist side, but make sure it doesn’t get waterlogged. A sheltered spot away from strong winds and frost is ideal, as it doesn’t like being exposed to harsh weather. It can tolerate a bit of shade, but too much can affect its vibrant colours. Make sure it has enough space to spread out, as it can grow a bit bushy over time.

Watering & Feeding

Polyanthus 'Showstopper Calypso' prefers its soil to stay moist, but not soggy. Water it regularly, especially during dry spells, but make sure the soil drains well to prevent the roots sitting in water, which can lead to rot. It's best to water in the morning, giving the plant time to dry out by evening. If the weather's cooler, you can reduce watering, but always keep an eye on the soil. If the top inch feels dry, it's time to give it a drink. Just avoid over-watering, as that can stress the plant.

General Care

Polyanthus 'Showstopper Calypso' is a real beauty that’s easy to look after. It likes a sheltered spot away from harsh winds and doesn’t mind a bit of cool weather. Keep it out of full-on sun, as it prefers a bit of shade or indirect light to keep those bright colours popping. Regular deadheading helps keep it looking fresh and encourages more blooms. It’s a good idea to keep an eye out for pests, though they’re not usually a big problem. If it gets a bit leggy, a quick trim will help keep it neat and compact.
