Description

Our popular Salvia; Bordeaux Rose is a striking dwarf perennial with large elegant pink flowers. It has aromatically fragrant foliage; which frames an intense flurry of pink flowers suitable for all the gaps in your garden borders. If you are looking for showy Salvia that will stand out in the crowd then our Salvia Bordeaux Rose is an absolute delight! Our lovely Bordeaux Rose has a strongly aromatic yet compact foliage with an intensely rich elegant rose’ colour flower. It’ll will give you that burst of colour in pots, containers and even window boxes. Salvia Bordeaux Rose will set off your borders even better as its height allows it to sit beautifully between your established shrubs and trees and your smaller Geraniums. As well as being showy and versatile it’s a hardy little thing and brings with a few pollinators too as it is the one of the best pollinator attractors.  You can see why it is one of our most popular Salvia. Salvia is resistant to a lot of diseases and even resistant to deer and rabbits! Salvias are very easy to care for and requires very little maintenance. A few things that keep them happy are sunny sheltered spots in the garden with moist but well drained soil, it’s an easy balance to find for them, usually in your borders in those gaps we don’t know what to do with.  Once you pop them into their spot, they will throw out plumes of colour all summer long. Once the flowers have gone over, a quick chop and it will flower again and again between June and September. Salvia Bordeaux Rose is a perennial so will come back year after year and is drought tolerant so a perfect little flower to pop in those places your hosepipe won’t quite reach.

Planting Conditions

Salvia Bordeaux Rose likes any position in the garden with a full level of sun. It prefers a sunny, yet slightly sheltered position and grows well in rich, fertile soils provided they are moist, but well-drained. If your soil does not drain that well we advise that you can add some sand or grit when planting which will help with this. You can tell if your soil is healthy if there is plenty of underground activity such as plant growth, earthworms and fungi. Alternatively, you can purchase a testing kit which will let you know what type of soil you have.

Watering & Feeding

Salvias can get all the moisture they need from rainfall; once established they are drought tolerant, so they are minimal maintenance if planted into your flowerbeds. Often, intense heat would be the only time they would require an extra drink. Due to the thick foliage and flowers on our Salvia we recommend watering regularly if they is in a pot or container, as rain rarely reaches the soil in these conditions. The best way to fertilise your Salvia is by removing any mulch and adding a 1-inch layer of compost. This is best done at the beginning of the Salvia flowering season in June.

General Care

Our Salvias will relentlessly flower all Summer if you just follow a few low-maintenance steps; as flowers fade, cut the flowers away as this will encourage the plant to keep producing new plumes of bright colour. Salvias like a well-drained soil so if your soil is clay soil your little one would fare better in pots, containers or even window boxes.
