Blooms of flower arrive in Spring and will flower again and again until the first frost in around September. This intensely Deep Purple Salvia holds an RHS Plants for Pollinators registration due to the wide range of pollinators it attracts to your garden, making it one of our most popular perennials in the UK that supports our wildlife in decline. The vibrant Deep Purple flower spikes are uniquely shaped and held above the dark evergreen foliage making it a sight to behold in a wide selection of gardens. Its versatile aesthetic will as such, suit; Courtyard and City Gardens, Gravel Gardens, Coastal or Cottage Gardens, Informal Gardens, Wall side borders, Flower borders and containers. Mirage Deep Purple is fully hardy and sturdy, and once established, is drought-tolerant so is perfect for someone who can’t regularly tend to the garden or in those areas that are difficult to water. The compact height makes it ideal for under planting in your flower beds, beneath larger shrubs and roses. Our Salvia Mirage is resistant to a lot of diseases and even resistant to the odd deer and rabbit! It’s an easy-keeper plant perfect for the garden beginner or for some lower maintenance spaces, yet still showy with the unique vibrant blooms.

Planting Conditions

Salvia Mirage Deep Purple likes any position in the garden with a light level of sun. It seeks a slightly sheltered position and will overwinter given good sun and drainage. They fare well in rich, fertile soils provided they are moist, but well-drained. It’s a great idea to add sand or grit to your soil when planting to support adequate drainage.

Watering & Feeding

Salvias can get all the moisture they need from rainfall; as once they are established, they are drought tolerant. This means that they are minimal maintenance if planted into your flowerbeds. Often, intense heat would be the only time they would require an extra drink. Whilst establishing we recommend regular watering if your Salvia is placed in a pot or container until drought resistant. The best way to fertilise your Salvia Mirage Deep Purple is to mulch annually with a generous layer of well-rotted manure or garden compost of around 2-3 inches.

General Care

Our Salvias will relentlessly flower all summer if you just follow a few low-maintenance steps; as flowers fade, deep-head spent flowers and this will encourage the plant to keep producing a new wave of magnificent floral beauties from May right through until the first frost in around September and a little pruning of unsightly shoots will keep its beautiful shape. Salvias like a well-drained soil so if you have clay soil your Mirage Deep Purple would fare better in pots, containers or even window boxes. They generally avoid pests but may suffer from slugs, snails and leafhoppers.
