A bright and striking popular Salvia Sensation is not to be missed! A striking perennial that hits all five senses; large flowers to feast your eyes on between June and August and wrinkly aromatic sage grey-green leaves to smell from March. The sounds of declining wildlife will fill your garden with joy and if you grab a handful, you can even dabble in a little ancient medicine to taste! Yum! The plant is compact yet intense in a rich deep blue colour so will fill the low spots in your borders yet catch your eye with its impact.  Newsworthy for those spaces in our garden that require a splash of colour, without adding too much work. Salvia Sensation Deep Blue is easy to care for and requires very little maintenance. A few things that keep it happy are sunny sheltered spots in the garden with moist but well drained soil, it’s an easy balance to find, usually in your borders in those gaps we don’t know what to do with. Once you pop it into its home, it will throw out plumes of colour all Summer long. Once the flowers fade, a quick trim, and it will flower again and again between June and September. If you miss the impact of this sensation, you can bring it indoors with beautiful cut flowers! Salvia Deep Blue is a perennial so will come back each year and is drought tolerant so a perfect little flower to pop in those places your hosepipe won’t quite reach. It suits a wide range of garden aesthetics also, amazing! Suits; Cottage gardens, Prairie Planting, Container Gardening, Contemporary Gardens, Urban Gardens and Wildflower Gardens.

Planting Conditions

Salvia Sensation Deep Blue likes any position in the garden with full or partial sunshine. It prefers a sunny, but sheltered position and grows well in rich, fertile soils provided they are moist, but well-drained. If your soil does not drain that well we advise that you can add some sand or grit when planting which will help with this. You can tell if your soil is healthy if there is plenty of underground activity such as plant growth, earthworms and fungi. Alternatively, you can purchase a testing kit which will let you know what type of soil you have.

Watering & Feeding

Salvias can get all the moisture they need from rainfall; once established they are drought tolerant, so it is minimal maintenance if planted into your flowerbeds. Prior to establishing or if planted in a container we suggest regular watering to keep your blooms voluptuous. The best way to fertilise your Salvia is by removing any mulch and adding a 1-inch layer of compost. This is best done at the beginning of the Salvia flowering season in spring.

General Care

Our Salvia sensationally flowers all summer if you can follow a few easy tips; as flowers fade, deadhead the flowers away as this will encourage a prolonged flowering season. Salvias like a well-drained soil so you can add grit or sand to help with drainage or pot your beauty into a container. Slugs, snails and leafhoppers may intrude on your Salvia but it is resistant to deer and rabbits! Great News!
