Thalictrum or Meadow-rue as they are also known, love a partially shaded spot so are perfect for a cottage of woodland setting. Thalictrum Black Stockings is one of the most popular varieties due to it’s fluffy bright purple flowers that sway in the breeze on almost black stems. It’s one of the easiest plants to grow and is great for adding height to a planting scheme. It’s no wonder this fantastic variety has been given the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for outstanding garden performance.

Description

Thalictrum are quite easy to grow provided they are given a moist, but well-drained soil and a sunny or partially shaded spot. Keep well watered, especially until established and mulch during the spring to help maintain moisture and suppress weeds. Thalictrum can be cut back after flowering or this can be delayed until the late winter/early spring as the foliage and seed heads remain attractive.
