Ceanothus Southmead is renowned for its blue-purple colour and RHS Garden Merit Award and is a great addition to well sheltered areas of the garden with plenty of sun in need of a splash of colour. Originating in California, its flowers in May and June are perfect for pollinating insects such as bees, and its stark contrast of light blue flowers and darker green leaves creates an effect begging to be used in a mixed border.

Ceanothus Southmead requires a sheltered location, with full sun and in moist, well drained soil. It is suggested that grit is used in a large hole to ensure the soil remains drained effectively. After flowering in May and June, cut back through July and August to ensure healthy, normal growth and shape. Does not require a lot of care for disease and insects, though can sometimes be prone to Honey Fungus.
