Nandina ‘Gulf Stream’ is a versatile evergreen shrub that will provide year round interest with it’s vibrant foliage colour. Striking shades of red, purples, yellows, oranges and greens can be seen throughout the year. The leaves are similar in appearance to those of a Bamboo, hence the common name ‘Heavenly Bamboo’. This compact shrub provides superb value in the garden, making an excellent specimen for patio containers and garden borders. During the warm summer months, Nandina ‘Gulf Stream’ will produce an abundance of pretty white star-shaped flowers which are followed by bright red berries.

Nandina will tolerate most soil types that are moist but well-drained, can be grown in sun or partial shade and prefer a sheltered position away from cold winds. During the first year give it a good water once a week, but once established it should be fairly self sufficient unless grown in a container. This variety is slow growing and requires very little pruning as it will remain fairly compact. Pruning can be done in later winter to remove dead or damaged growth. A general slow-release shrub fertiliser can be applied in the spring to promote healthy growth.
