Pittosporums are evergreen shrubs that are great for adding colour and texture to the garden. ‘Golden Ball’ is a compact variety with golden-yellow new growth which contrasts well with the older yellow-green foliage. In May and June small violet coloured flowers appear and have a delicious honey scent. Great for small spaces or low hedges, but can also be trimmed into a topiary ball making it a good alternative to Buxus.

Pittosporums are easy to grow and require very little maintenance. They perform best in a sheltered spot in full sun or partial shade and a well-drained soil, but don't like particularly wet soil. Water once a week in summer, allowing the soil to dry slightly before the next watering. In winter, water less frequently. In spring feed with a balanced slow-release fertiliser. Pruning is only required to maintain shape or increase the density of foliage. May require frost protection.
